Executive Director Job Description

 The Mount Vernon Arts Consortium was created to ensure high quality entertainment, educational and visitor experiences are presented at key arts-related community assets in Mount Vernon, Ohio. Founded in 2020 as a non-profit, the Mount Vernon Arts Consortium (“Consortium”) places focus on three pillar arts venues: Knox Memorial Building and Theater, Ariel-Foundation Park’s Schnormeier Event Center and other rental spaces within the park, and the Woodward Opera House and its facilities. In addition, the Consortium provides its menu of services to arts partner non-profit organizations in Mount Vernon, in support of an annual coordinated calendar of arts and entertainment offerings.

 

To foster the vision of the Consortium as a leader and collaborator in building quality of life economic development strategies for Mount Vernon, with a ripple effect benefiting all of Knox County, the Consortium full-time Executive Director:

  • Serves as the Consortium liaison to the leadership of the three pillar arts venues, working together to promote growth for the arts venues while ensuring proper care for the entertainment and arts aspects of the venues, and bolstering rental and facility utilization opportunities.

  • Facilitates strategic collaboration by working with arts partners and venues to coordinate a calendar for scheduling entertainment that best utilizes human capital resources, avoids redundancy, and attracts visitors to bolster sales tax and bed tax revenues for the Mount Vernon community.

  • Is responsible for resource development through sponsorship and membership activities, strategic fundraising efforts, and grant writing as a means of garnering support for the Consortium and maximizing programming opportunities at the venues the Consortium supports.

  • Oversees Consortium staff, their respective team members and associated workplans, as well as holds responsibility for effective organization operations.

  • Provide excellent communication and foster relationship building, serving as the public face for the Consortium and elevating the Consortium’s profile.

  • Monitor the Consortium’s operating budget and projections. 

  • Support the Consortium’s Board of Directors in their strategic planning, monitoring, and impact evaluation efforts.

  • Guide talent and entertainment recruitment negotiations and associated contract execution for Consortium programming, and in partnership with venue management.

  • Demonstrate successful non-profit organization leadership and arts venue management.

The Executive Director shall adhere to all policies and procedures of the Consortium, as well as guide the board in the development of additional operational guidelines and protocols.  The Board of Directors may assign other duties to the Executive Director.

 

Work Environment and Schedule:

This full-time position offers a flexible schedule which may include evenings, holidays and weekends. Some work requirements will involve exposure to and work in inclement weather conditions.

 

Physical Demands:

General good health and the ability to perform the essential functions of this job is required. While performing duties on this job, this position requires the ability to sit, stand, and walk; use of hands to finger, handle and feel; reaching with arms and hands; climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, and crouching; and the ability to talk and hear.  The employee must be able to traverse improved and unimproved surfaces both indoors and outdoors. The employee may occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision, and the ability to adjust focus.  The physical ability to perform labor and the tasks noted above is required of this position as well as possession of the ability to effectively, efficiently, and safely complete tasks in a timely manner.
