KVAA’s Arts Alliance Workshops are accessible community events that are designed to offer relevant, inspiring information and practical approaches towards creating individual art. Workshops are led by guest artists immersed in their field of study who lead conversation and questions through their shared experience and process.

This workshop is led by photographer and film maker, Louie Palu.

In this presentation Palu will share his photographs, the stories behind them and his experiences from over 30-years of working throughout the U.S. and the world. From his in-depth coverage of workers in mining communities to his ongoing project documenting the Arctic, Palu will discuss pathways in photography and visual storytelling, offering practical guidance on how documentary work can deepen our understanding of science, journalism, filmmaking, and domestic and global affairs.

This workshop will include educational elements suitable for anyone from high school students to adults and anyone interested in photography, visual art, journalism, filmmaking, science, including domestic and world affairs. A question-and-answer session will follow the presentation.

Louie Palu is an award-winning photographer and filmmaker whose work has examined critical issues for over 30-years. He has been selected for a John Simon Guggenheim Foundation Fellowship and World Press Photo Award. His work has covered the wars in Afghanistan, Ukraine, and the future of the Arctic for National Geographic. His work has been published and screened at festivals worldwide. His work is in the collections of numerous museums, libraries, and archives including the National Gallery of Art, Smithsonian National Museum of American History, Museum of Fine Arts Houston and Ogden Museum of Southern Art. He holds an MFA from the Maryland Institute College of Art.

This is a free public event.
